When a Razorpay card payment fails, Recurflux creates a UPI payment link and emails it directly to the customer. They pay via GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, or any UPI app — no card required, no re-entering details. The link expires in 7 days.

Quick answer
UPI fallback is a payment recovery path for Razorpay merchants when a card charge fails. Recurflux creates a UPI payment link and delivers it to the subscriber by email. They complete payment via GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, or any UPI app — no card required, no form fields. The link expires after 7 days. Available on the Growth plan.
The problem
UPI is how the majority of digital payments happen in India. A subscriber whose card fails often has a UPI app on their phone and can pay within seconds — if you give them the link.

With Recurflux UPI fallback
How it works
01
Recurflux receives the failure webhook from Razorpay and identifies the failure code. For codes where a card retry is unlikely to succeed, the UPI fallback flow activates.
02
Recurflux creates a Razorpay payment link with UPI enabled, pre-configured with the correct subscription amount and merchant details. No manual action required.
03
The customer receives an email from your domain with the UPI payment link. The email explains their card did not go through and offers UPI as an alternative. One tap to pay.
04
The customer opens the link on their phone, selects their UPI app — GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, or any other — confirms the payment, and it processes in seconds.
05
Once the UPI payment succeeds, Recurflux marks the charge as recovered and the subscription continues without interruption. The link expires automatically after 7 days if unused.
What you control
01
Edit the subject line and body of the UPI fallback email. Set the sending domain to match your product. The payment link is appended automatically.
02
Every UPI link created is logged: which subscriber, amount, creation date, expiry date, and status — pending, paid, or expired. Track conversion per link.
03
When a UPI payment completes, the charge row in the recovery dashboard updates to RECOVERED. If the link expires unused, it moves to LOST.

The UPI payment link works with any UPI-enabled app: GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, and any other app registered to the customer's UPI ID. No specific app is required.
No. The payment link is pre-configured with the correct amount and merchant details. The customer taps the link, confirms in their UPI app, and the payment completes — no form fields to fill.
The link expires after 7 days. If the customer does not pay within that window, the link expires and the charge is marked as lost in the recovery dashboard.
Growth plan only, for Razorpay merchants. It is not available on Rise or Surge, and does not apply to other processors.
Yes. When a card failure is detected for a Razorpay subscriber, the standard retry logic runs for failure codes that warrant a retry. For failures where a retry is unlikely to succeed, the UPI fallback link fires alongside the dunning email.
